- Instructions for use with NETX.EXE
- 8JUL94
-
- 1. Download all of the following files from NetWire (CompuServe):
- A. NWC001.EXE from NOVLIB.
- B. NWC002.EXE from NOVLIB.
- C. DOSUP9.EXE from NOVFILES.
-
- Note: NetWare Connect works with either standard NetWare client (DOS
- or Windows). In either case, the newest version of your preferred
- client should be used. Therefore, if you will be using the Windows
- client, also download WINUP9.EXE.
-
- 2. Install NWC001.EXE and NWC002.EXE according to the instructions in
- NWC001.TXT. Be particularly careful to follow the instructions in
- NWC001.TXT regarding copying files to the workstations.
-
- 3. Copy the following files in DOSUP9 to the C:\NRN directory of the
- workstation's hard drive.
- DOSRQSTR.MSG 11-17-93
- IPXODI. 10-7-93
- NETX.EXE 11-17-93
-
- 4. NOTE: Remote users must NOT use NETX.EXE if logging into a Netware
- 4X server. VLMs must be used instead.
-
- 5. Run MS-Windows File Manager
-
- 6. Then, in the NPATCH directory, run the SETUP.EXE program provided
- in this patch.
-
- 7. If you are installing this patch on a Non LAN PC (Laptop or other
- remote workstation), installation is now complete. If you are
- installing this patch on a NetWare Workstation, also follow the
- remaining steps. However, go to #13, below, if you want to use the
- new optional Icons and PIFs for easier use of Dialcon.
-
- 8. Tell Setup where NET.CFG is.
- You may wish to keep the NetWare Connect NRN client software in a
- directory called C:\NRN in order to keep it separate from the NetWare
- workstation's client software. (i.e. NETX, VLMS).
-
- 9. Check to see that VIPX.386 and VNRN.386 were copied to your
- Windows\system directory.
-
- 10. Check SYSTEM.INI to make sure that device=vnrn.386 is added to the
- 386 ENH section.
-
- 11. If you have a MaxComPort=0 or COMIrq=-1 statement in the 386enh of
- section of SYSTEM.INI, you may now remove it. It is no longer
- required.
-
- 12. Check your SYSTEM.INI for 3rd party VCD drivers installed by third
- party Windows based communication applications.
- You may have to REM them out to get the this patch to work.
- The example below shows the PC Anywhere for Windows driver remarked
- out.
- [386 ENH]
- ;device=AW5VCD.386
- Your third party communications application should still be able to
- use the comm ports.
-
- 13. NET.CFG

- A. Check to make sure the line:
- MEMPOOL 500
- is in the link support area.
-
- B. Add the line:
- Netware Protocol = Bind
-
- C. Add the line Preferred Server=YYYY, where YYYY is the name of the
- Preferred Server.
-
- D. If the client's CONFIG.SYS contains the line;
- LastDrive=Z
- remove it. It is only required with VLMs.
-
- 14. To set up the optional ICONs and PIFs for easier use of
- Dialcon from the Windows DOS BOX.
- A. From Program Manager choose "new" under file.
-
- B. Create a new Program Group and call it "Netware Remote Node".
-
- C. From the "Netware Remote Node" field choose "new" under file.
-
- D. Create three program items:
- - DIALCON.PIF
- (for starting DIALCON)
- - DIALCONH.PIF
- (for hanging up the modem)
- - NRN.PIF
- (for taking you to the NRN login. Remember to logout and
- exit the DOS-Box when you are done)
- E. Use the Browse option to locate the 3 PIFs under C:\NRN.
-
- F. Then use the change ICON option to choose NOVDIL.ICO in C:\NRN.
-
